How to Begin Making Minimalism a Part of Your Life: Easy Tips

The idea of living a minimalist life can be a bit frightening. Certainly you may have a draw to reducing your lifestyle, but where do you begin? It doesn't have to be hard and it can come in baby steps. You don't have to go live in the woods and get rid of everything you own (though kudos to those that do). Here are some tips on how you can begin making minimalism a part of your life:

Eliminate what you don't like: That shirt that you bought on sale but never wear because it's itchy? The pair of shoes that are too tight but were such a good deal? Get rid of them! If something doesn't bring you joy, if it's not useful, or if it doesn't fit well, let it go.

Pick items that are high quality and make you happy: When you start reducing the amount of stuff you have, you may find that you need to replace some items. When you do, take the time to pick things that are high quality and that will make you happy every time you use them. A good pair of jeans that fit well and are comfortable can be worth their weight in gold.

Don't get rid of everything: Just because minimalism is trendy doesn't mean you have to go overboard. If there are sentimental items that you want to keep but don't necessarily need on display, consider storing them away. The point is to reduce the amount of clutter in your life, not eliminate everything that brings you joy.

Start small: You don't have to go full minimalism overnight (unless you want to). Start by decluttering one area of your home, such as your closet. See how it feels to have less stuff and go from there.

Making minimalism a part of your life doesn't have to be difficult. Start with these easy tips and see how you feel. You may find that living with less brings you more joy than you ever thought possible.
